Outros Campeonatos

The Grand Tournament of Outros Campeonatos was a great party. Throughout the morning was held the football tournament. In addition to the Outros Campeonatos – Quinta do Cabrinha team, five other street football teams participated: Desafios E6G (Mira-Sintra), O Companheiro, Bola Prá Frente E6G (Bairro Padre Cruz), Dá-te ao Condado E6G (Chelas), Clube Desportivo Santo António de Lisboa (Quinta do Cabrinha). At half-time, we were able to watch a demonstration of cinotecnia of the project Mão-Guia. The games ended with the first place awarded to Companheiro and the fair-play prize to Santo Antonio.   KidFun – Benfica Foundation   Recycling Olympics   In the afternoon there were many entertainment activities. The Benfica Foundation has brought its KidFun project; the Cabrinha young people organized the Recycling Olympics; during the whole afternoon there was a pool in front of the base space of the Outros Campeonatos; the We Hate Tourism Tours drove […]

The Grand Tournament of Outros Campeonatos

Third exercise of the mapping process developed by the Outros Campeonatos in the Quinta do Cabrinha neighborhood.   In this exercise, we wanted to know the forms of cultural expression of the neighborhood. As such, the Cabrinha community was involved. Each participant should indicate in the neighborhood map forms of cultural expression developed, either individually or collectively, according to seven categories: arts, customs, knowledge and crafts, beliefs, institutions, objects and buildings. The group of participants was characterized by their age and gender. Below the legend of the symbols used.     The following responses were obtained:     Descriptive analysis of responses Arts: 18 Answers The following artistic subjects are practiced locally: Handicrafts – several inhabitants are mentioned to have with enough skill to produce this type of objects, often through the reuse of materials such as brass, wood and others. Music – fado is very popular in Cabrinha (especially […]

Mapping the cultural heritage of Alcântara

Second exercise of the mapping process developed by Outros Campeonatos in the Quinta do Cabrinha neighborhood.   This collective mapping exercise was developed in two phases: the first one in Cabrinha, involving inhabitants of the neighborhood; the second, outside Cabrinha, but within the district of Alcântara, involving inhabitants of other neighborhoods of the district. The first phase aimed to obtain data that would allow us to know how the Cabrinha inhabitants use the urban resources that the district of Alcântara and its surroundings have; the second sought to obtain data of the same type, but relative to inhabitants of other neighborhoods of Alcântara. On one hand, we wanted to compare the extent to which the use of urban resources differs between the inhabitants of Cabrinha and the other inhabitants of Alcântara; on the other hand, we try to understand how the inhabitants of Alcântara come to the neighborhood of Quinta […]

Mapping the urban resources of Alcântara

First exercise of the mapping process developed by Outros Campeonatos in the Quinta do Cabrinha neighborhood.   We wanted to know what were the zones of sensorial comfort /discomfort of the district of Quinta do Cabrinha. So, the task was to identify these zones on the neighborhood map, using eight different symbols.     This exercise involved exclusively the inhabitants of Quinta do Cabrinha and was carried out individually. Here are some examples of the answers given:     The results obtained from 52 responses were as follows:   Green Mouth / Red Mouth For the Green Mouth symbol, participants gave the meaning of “good food”, “good talk” and “good fellowship”. To the Red Mouth symbol there were given meanings, such as “people screaming on the balconies of buildings”, “discussions”, “aggressive talk”.   Green Nose / Red Nose The Green Nose epresented for the participants “cleaned spaces” and “green spaces”. […]

Mapping the senses in Cabrinha

Throughout the implementation of the Outros Campeonatos, in the background of the main activities of the project, such as street football games or sustainable touristic visits, a continuous process of collective mapping of the neighborhood of Quinta do Cabrinha was developed.   The developed process aimed to understand the broader and deeper aspects of the neighborhood’s social reality. We wanted to know why people come and use the neighborhood Quinta do Cabrinha, those who live there, but also those who live in the surrounding areas; how the inhabitants of Cabrinha interact with each other and with the spaces and urban resources of the neighborhood and its surroundings; also, how the inhabitants of the neighboring areas relate to Cabrinha and have access to the resources they provide; finally, the immaterial heritage of Cabrinha, the wishes, the vocations and the knowledge of those who live there, the history and the stories that […]

Mapping Cabrinha

Exhibition held in Cabrinha’s public space, during the closing party of Outros Campeonatos, on September 9, 2017. It presents the results obtained at the photography workshop held during the visit to the Águas Livres Aqueduct, which Outros Campeonatos held on March 11, 2017, involving the communities of the neighborhoods of Quinta do Cabrinha, Liberdade and Serafina.         After visiting the neighborhoods of Serafina and Liberdade, where we were warmly welcomed by the Campolide Soma & Segue E6G, project, we were all (Cabrinha, Serafina and Liberty) strolling through the most emblematic monument of the Alcântara valley. Facing the magnificent view, some disposable cameras were distributed to the group. The proposal was that through the lenses, our young participants could get to know and experience a new point of view where they live. We immediately realized that the act of photographing provided many conversations, not only about the aqueduct, […]

Outros Campeonatos with a view over the city – photographic exhibition

It is already next Saturday, September 9, 2017, starting at 10h00, at Quinta do Cabrinha, in Alcântara. Outros Campeonatos reaches a special date, the Grand Tournament one! It will be a day full of activities: in addition to the street football tournament, which takes place in the morning, we have prepared activities throughout the day with and for the local community (population and institutions), to promote social cohesion and the improvement of public space. We also have the participation of the Fundação Benfica (Benfica Foundation) and the Mão-Guia project (Hand-Guide project) and we will publicly reveal the results of the Outros Campeonatos project. After almost a year of intense work with the community of Quinta do Cabrinha, we invite you to come and share with us this day. Come, everyone, come to Cabrinha!   The program is as follows: PROGRAM 10h-14h – Street Football Tournament Sports exchange between neighbourhoods […]

There will be a party! The Grand Tournament of Outros Campeonatos

I know I promised to write before. But there was so much work I didn’t have the time. Look at our Facebook page and confirm that there was no time to stop. We have reached the end of five intense days of sharing and conviviality. Of learning and bonding.     These days were, almost, too full. The bonds between all grew like roots at blazing speed, and in the end nobody wanted to leave. There was a lot of work going on in all the workshops. From the kitchen to the theatre there was a bit of everything. The workshops went really well, I can say that the food that came from them was delicious. And the theatre? It was intense and sincere, had the ability to put everyone thinking about the difficulties they face in everyday life. And we’ve got boxes that now have a new life, and […]

he internship ended but it’s here to stay

As I write this article there is going on another forum theater session, at the facilities of the Spin Association, at the Bairro Padre Cruz. While some continue to practice, the others, who wait for their turn, prepare the party that will be there tomorrow night. This is what’s happening these days. The working groups were arranged with people from the three different projects that are taking part in the internship. And like that we keep on working. Some in one activity, others in the other, simultaneously and looking in the same direction: what we have in common, what we know, what we can learn, with each other, from each other. Luís Pacheco, a writer who made a text called “Comunidade” talks about family and sharing like a raft. It is a beautiful literary image, the raft one. Here, some are family, others are not. Some are friends, others are […]

Internship: Logbook

Yesterday, began one of the events that more joy and pride brings us to organize . As the season requires, before starting the championship, there is an internship. For 5 days we will be at the Spin Association, in the heart of the Padre Cruz, with the practice and metaphor of the soccer internship.     We say metaphor because not only football it is about (knowing that street football is and will always be present in the activities of Outros Campeonatos). We organized 5 days of activities, one of them being street football. In addition to this, there are upcycling and sustainable eating workshops. There is a forum theater and an action incubator where we talk about the daily problems that are faced in the neighbourhoods where our participants live and look for solutions for some of them. We also bring people with inspiring life stories to talk with […]

The Grand Internship of Outros Campeonatos

WE WON!   There, we said it.   Last Saturday, we had the honour of being invited to the IX Street Football Tournament of the Bairro Padre Cruz.   The Associação Nacional de Futebol de Rua (National Street Football Association) organized a formidable event in the recent street football square in the heart of the neighbourhood. It was with great pleasure that we went, once again, to Carnide to hang out with our partners; those who taught us the little we know about these street football wanderings. All that we’ve done here related to street football, we owe them.     We left Quinta do Cabrinha excited with the afternoon we were going to have in Carnide, and with no expectations whatsoever regarding the classification we would get in the tournament. It was not even an issue raised by anyone (really, not even the most competitive of our players spoke […]

Cabrinha, The Champion

This is a special article. Michele Spatari, an Italian apprentice of architecture, as passed as a storm at Quinta do Cabrinha. He was in Lisbon, until the end of June, collaborating with Colectivo Warehouse and found it made sense to come to Quinta do Cabrinha and photograph its people. His words are always going to be better than hours to find out the how and why of this happening. We offer you the interview and some of the pictures he left us with.   Hi, Michele. Can you please introduce yourself? Ciao! My name is Michele Spatari and I am an Italian architecture graduate trying to find his path into photojournalism, documentary photography and the news media in general. I know, it is an arduous path. I was born in a middle-sized city in northern Italy called Bologna in 1991 and I was lucky enough to have the chance to live these […]

What does an Italian photographer see in Cabrinha?

There is a cycle that comes to an end in “Outros Campeonatos” from which emerge created relationships, work done and the joint effort of opening the neighborhood to other communities scattered throughout the city. The visits that were scheduled for these first months of the project have come to an end, with the presence of Campolide Soma&Segue – E6G in Quinta do Cabrinha. There is a sense of satisfaction for everything that has been done so far within the community of Quinta do Cabrinha. It was very unlikely that anyone who came here during these months would have done otherwise. This is also the job, yes, to provide these meetings, but that is not what it tastes like. It is important to see things happening with the eyes of those who see and what we see is growth. Growth that happens in the relationship with others and with the collaboration […]

“Outros Campeonatos” moves Onwards and Upwards

The visits continue and Quinta do Cabrinha received (and well, as always) another group of guests on the past Saturday. The Dá-te ao Condado (give yourself to the county) project, from the old J zone of Chelas, now “Bairro do Condado”, came to visit the “Outros Campeonatos” and Quinta do Cabrinha for another day of activities. Street football set the tone for the day, on a morning of rushing and gambling. Games were played between the two neighborhoods and then everyone was mixed. Street football is a way of creating links and relationships. In addition to making us look at ourselves and others within a group, playing with people we still do not know compels us to evaluate how we relate with each other.     These Saturday visits always follow the same script, and anyone who has read the other articles on any of them knows that Um Outro […]

Condado (the County) in Alcântara

Saturdays. Always Saturdays to go and to receive, meet people and ideas. This time it was the Cais Association that visited us at Quinta do Cabrinha. The plan was similar to what we like to do: receive well, make everyone feel at ease to meet and share a full day, with street football and the machines of Pietro, with Alcântara from today and from yesterday. To start, football. Street football. The Cais Association has a long history related to the modality. They were their first promoters in the country, using it as a social inclusion strategy since 2004 with great success. And they came to share the field with us, mixing people of all ages and with very different life histories, playing during one whole morning.     It is important for us, in the Outros Campeonatos, to see so much happening. The people who visit us are so different […]

CAIS at Cabrinha

The roles reversed. After two months of leaving, visiting other projects and neighborhoods spread throughout Lisbon, it is up to us to welcome all the people who have welcomed us so well. The first one to visit the “Quinta do Cabrinha” and “Outros Campeonatos” (and understood this in the scope of this project, since they had already been there and they have been missed) was the Associação Nacional de Futebol de Rua. It was a full day, sunny, that ended with that kind of tiredness that tastes good. It is comfortable to receive people we like and who immediately take away the nervous from the responsibility of being the host. The staff of the “Associação Nacional de Futebol de Rua” has the habit of putting us completely at ease and so it was. The day started with street football. Predictable? Yes. Does it make sense? Also. We have been playing […]

After going, receiving

We continue the series of partners’ articles. Since we do not want to make this a thing about ourselves, we do not have much to add to it. The words of Lisbon Sustainable Tourism are as follows:   After another tour around Lisbon with the project “Outros Campeonatos”, a phase of great importance, in our opinion, ends. Ends in order to start other phases. And we are not referring only to the visits of new friends and partners to Quinta do Cabrinha, already scheduled for the coming months, but also to other moments and initiatives that will arise with the will to continue to know and enjoy all the resources that our city has to offer. Lisbon Sustainable Tourism will always be available and will continue to work so that these and other young people (kids and adults) have access to their city, so that they can learn, know their […]

Partners’ Articles – Lisbon Sustainable Tourism

We closed with a golden key. The last scheduled visit (which in no way means the end of the tours we so much enjoy doing) of this phase of “Outros Campeonatos” was last Saturday. We visited the Dá-te ao Condado E6G project, in the Condado neighborhood, in Chelas, promoted by the Guinean Association of Social Solidarity – Aguinenso. We are already looking a bit suspicious of repeating it, but we are always so welcome. Take the Cabrinha to know new cultures, to visit points of the city that are not part of the touristic routes and meet people who, within their otherness, have points in common with us and our way of being. This is what we are always looking for with these visits. When we met with the “Dá-te ao Condado E6G” staff we were not expecting to have such an active day, honestly. As soon as they told us […]

“Outros Campeonatos” in the air

It was a great Saturday, the 3rd visit of “Outros Campeonatos”. This time we stayed near but we still walked a lot. We went to visit the Campolide Soma & Segue E6G project, being held in the neighborhoods of Liberdade and Serafina. There was street football, as usual. We got to know the activities of “Some & Segue” and we were fascinated by the music production studio and the videoclips they made. This is also why we go out, not only to get to know places, realities and new people, but to seek ideas and learn ways of thinking and acting different from ours. Looking at others helps us look at ourselves.     We had lunch in a garden with a very nice view of the Vale de Alcântara, a result of a project, similarly to ours, financed by the BIP/ZIP program.   Then we continued to Campolide, to […]

“Outros Campeonatos” with a view over the city

We continue walking through Lisbon, learning about the work of community building that is being done here and spreading street football into other places.     This time, we left Cabrinha in the direction of the city center, to visit Casa do Brasil in Lisbon, in the middle of Bairro Alto. It was Carnival, we had to make a visit, right?     We were, as always, immensely well received. Diógenes explained how the Casa do Brasil in Lisbon works, the services they provide to the community and the activities they organize. It was another opportunity to meet people who organize themselves around the common good, working for better conditions for all. We bring ideas and good energy from these meetings to keep doing what we do and improve our practices. We continued towards the Jardim do Princípe Real for a street football game in the city. We were there to […]

Outros Campeonatos roaming Lisbon

We launch here a series of articles written by the partners that dynamize with us the “Outros Campeonatos”. The idea was to diversify the type of speech produced about the project and to understand how all those involved see what we are building in Quinta do Cabrinha. These articles are also used to better understand how the partners of the Outros Campeonatos are involved in the activities promoted within the project. The plurality of points of view will help to reflect on the practices and to better build the future. We reproduce here the opinion of the “Associação Nacional de Futebol de Rua” (National Association of Street Football):   “The Associação Nacional de Futebol de Rua has as its mission to promote the social and sports methodology of street football as an innovative strategy of socio-pedagogical and cultural intervention with a view to human development and social inclusion. Since 2009, it […]

Partners Articles – National Association of Street Football

This was the first exit of the “Outros Campeonatos” (Other Championships). We planned to go playing street football in the Padre Cruz neighborhood with the Associação Nacional de Futebol de Rua (National Association of Street Football) and we went for a walk during all day. It was a heterogeneous group, which came out of Cabrinha, from small to grown up kids. O Lisbon Sustainable Tourism organized us a full day and there we went. The game was only in the afternoon but we got up early in the morning and at 9 in the morning (more or less) there was everyone next to the vans that We Hate Tourism Tours made available to lead us towards the “Moinho da Juventude” (Youth Mill). We were welcomed with open arms in Cova da Moura. The staff of Moinho showed us the neighborhood, explained to us what they are doing and the struggles […]

There are other Championships out of the Cabrinha!

On 26th January, another action of Outros Campeonatos(Other Championships), took place in Quinta do Cabrinha. The meeting “Foi assim que começámos” (This is how we started), aimed to collect and share, in a relatively informal way, stories of experiences of youth associations happening in the Lisbon area. Following the guidelines of “Outros Campeonatos”, the testimonies of the invited associations were directed to the Quinta do Cabrinha community and the young people strongly answered the call. This initiative came as a follow-up to a conversation with Jorge Ramos, a member of the young informal group “Ventos de Mudança” (Winds of Change), our partner. Jorge, being inhabitant of the neighborhood since its genesis, had already undergone the process of trying to create a youth association here in Quinta do Cabrinha. This attempt was ruined but the bug stayed and came back now. We came to the conclusion that it would be of […]

This is how we started – Meeting on Youth Associativism and Active Citizenship

Good vibes to Cabrinha!… … This is the Christmas wish of who have participated in one more street action of the project “Outros Campeonatos”, made by the Cabrinha community, for the Cabrinha community.   Natal de Bairro was made in several moments, each one contributing to the previous established goals: to develop collaborative working methods in the neighbourhood, to involve the Cabrinha inhabitants in a common action and to enrich the common spaces and public space of the neighbourhood.   Moment 1: TO PLAN It was from the will and ideas of our participants that “Natal de Bairro” street action started to be developed: decided and prepared by the Cabrinha community, for the Cabrinha community. After a brain storm, it was determined that we would embellish all the neighbourhood with Christmas decorations, which elaboration would be the most participated as possible.     Moment 2: TO INVOLVE Various forms were […]

The good thing about Cabrinha is

On November 19th there was a presentation party of “Outros Campeonatos”, a project of the Citizenship Academy (CA), developed under the BIP / ZIP program of the Lisbon City Council, partnered with the Parish Council of Alcântara, a group of young people “Ventos de Mudança” (Winds of Change), the Associação Nacional de Futebol de Rua and Lisbon Sustainable Tourism. Among other actions of community involvement, the “Vozes do Cabrinha” (Voices of Cabrinha) action was developed, where the results of the ausculation were carried out with the community throughout the duration of the first month of project implementation.   The Cabrinha We Want This action consisted of a consultation that sought to gather opinions and suggestions regarding the public space and common spaces of the neighborhood. Looking at 12 photos of the neighborhood, we asked people to reflect on the images by writing down what they would like to see changed. […]

The Cabrinha we want

November 19 was the  Other Championships’ briefing, a Citizenship’s Academy project that is supported by the Lisbon City Council’s BIP / ZIP, and developed in partnership with Alcântara Parish Council, “Ventos de Mundança” (Winds Of Change) Youth Group, National Street Soccer Association and Lisbon Sustainable Tourism. Amongst other community actions, “Vozes do Cabrinha” (Cabrinha Voices) presented the  results obtained, through community consultation, during the first month’s project.   Q&A results Q&A were carried out that sought to know the inhabitants opinions concerning “citizen participation and community organization”, as well as the neighbourhood’s public and common spaces positive and negative aspects. 53 people were interviewed randomly:     1st question: Taking into account my living expirience in the neighborhood, I’ve got an active role in Cabrinha’s community Notice that most consider having an active role in the neighbourhood, namely, participating in local associations /organizations, or promoting mutual aid. The ones who […]

Cabrinha’s voices – Q&A results

“Other Championships” presentation party took place on Saturday November 19, at Cabrinha football field (Quinta do Cabrinha, neighborhood), in the presence of all the project’s partners. The project is funded by the BIP/ZIP, a Lisbon City Council program. Alcântara Parish Council was represented by its chairman, Davide Amado. Ana Paulos and Vanda Ramalho represented the Street Soccer National Association, while  and Cabrinha’s Youth “Ventos de Mudança” (Winds of Change) were represented by Joana Jacinto and Jorge Ramos, accordingly. There were several activities during the afternoon. We’ve been shown the work results that’s been developed so far; afterwards, street football and a snack have brought Cabrinha’s inhabitants near Citizenship’s Academy headquarters. “Projecto Alkantara” and “Fazer a Ponte” (“Making a Bridge”) projects brought us the Alkantara Dance Project presentation that’s had liven up the party in an almost full space. Afterwards, a biefing, to explain Outros Campeonatos project: what is it and  wants […]

Outros Campeonatos project has just started!

The day October’s 17, it proceeded the signature of the protocol between Citizenship Academy and Lisbon’s Town Hall, for the implementation of the project Outros Campeonatos, promoted by the former and financed by the latter, under the BIP/ZIP program.     Outros Campeonatos was designed to be implemented in Quinta do Cabrinha in Alcântara, between 2016 October and 2017 October. Its design was thanks to the knowledge and experience we gathered since the last three years of stay in the neighborhood, mainly from the contacts made with the community and local associations. This way, Outros Campeonatos is adapted not only to the specific needs of the community of Cabrinha, but as well as the vocation of the Citizenship Academy, which is the empowerment of people and organizations for active citizenship and social organization. The partners of this project are the Alcântara’s Town Council, the Street Football Nacional Association, the Lisbon […]

The project Outros Campeonatos is already starting!

The project “Outros Campeonatos” is starting! Outros Campeonatos is a project that began in October 2016, promoted by Academia Cidadã (Citizenship Academy) and financed by the program BIP/ZIP by Lisbon’s Town Hall, implemented in Quinta do Cabrinha, a public housing neighborhood in Alcântara – Lisbon. Has as formal partners Alcântara’s Parish Council, the small youthful group of Cabrinha “Ventos de Mudança” (Winds of Change), the Street Football Nacional Association and the Lisbon Sustainable Tourism. “The Pre-Season of the Championship” is the first activity of Outros Campeonatos. It presents Outros Campeonatos to the community and establishes the organization of the whole project. Straight contact begins with the population that already plays on the streets, through the Ventos de Mudança: creation of empathy, understanding problems and opinions. People are captivated to partake in the project. Through the development of auscultation actions, it is aimed to comprehend how are the internal relationships of […]
