Throughout the implementation of the Outros Campeonatos, in the background of the main activities of the project, such as street football games or sustainable touristic visits, a continuous process of collective mapping of the neighborhood of Quinta do Cabrinha was developed.   The developed process aimed to understand the broader and deeper aspects of the neighborhood’s social reality. We wanted to know why people come and use the neighborhood Quinta do Cabrinha, those who live there, but also those who live in the surrounding areas; how the inhabitants of Cabrinha interact with each other and with the spaces and urban resources of the neighborhood and its surroundings; also, how the inhabitants of the neighboring areas relate to Cabrinha and have access to the resources they provide; finally, the immaterial heritage of Cabrinha, the wishes, the vocations and the knowledge of those who live there, the history and the stories that […]

Mapping Cabrinha

Exhibition held in Cabrinha’s public space, during the closing party of Outros Campeonatos, on September 9, 2017. It presents the results obtained at the photography workshop held during the visit to the Águas Livres Aqueduct, which Outros Campeonatos held on March 11, 2017, involving the communities of the neighborhoods of Quinta do Cabrinha, Liberdade and Serafina.         After visiting the neighborhoods of Serafina and Liberdade, where we were warmly welcomed by the Campolide Soma & Segue E6G, project, we were all (Cabrinha, Serafina and Liberty) strolling through the most emblematic monument of the Alcântara valley. Facing the magnificent view, some disposable cameras were distributed to the group. Oeiras is also a land of squatter gardens. The previous days served us to follow the course of the Jamor, always inside the county of Sintra. On this day we pass to the other side of the IC19 (complementary itinerary 19) and we arrive at Oeiras.   The river Jamor is born in the Serra da Carregueira (Carregueira hill), county of Sintra, and flows into Cruz Quebrada, Oeiras municipality. It crosses two municipalities, both of Greater Lisbon, making Jamor an urban river, since it is born, runs and flows in a metropolitan area, Lisbon.. This is also one of the most populated regions of Portugal. Dona Maria, Brejo, Belas, Pendão and finally Queluz. This is the route that Jamor does, and that we visited in the municipality of Sintra. When in the middle of the city the field breaks out The gardens in Queluz are impressive by the contrast they create with the surrounding buildings. It seems that the countryside is invading the city, finally the triumph of nature.   From the promenade that is over the huge plain that accompanies the Jamor, near the train station of Queluz-Belas, there are always many people working the land. On that day, we set up a conversation at the distance with two gentlemen, who, down below, watered with a huge hose what appeared to be baby cabbages. We wanted to know how to get off. They shouted at us that we would have to go to the end of Miguel Bombarda Avenue and enter through an opening between two buildings. Log Book I Day 6 I How to squat a river

Senior squatters between Belas and Queluz. At the entrance of Queluz we learned to apply a new concept: farm squatter.   Mr. Patrício is a squatter at Quinta das Andorinhas. It is a squatting that lasts for more than 40 years, which makes Mr. Patrício (and we affirm it with all respect) a senior squatter. He divides the land, which is private property, not from the state, with at least one other person. This squatter farm is located between Belas and Queluz, but it is not the only one, in the surroundings. There are dozens of other farms squatted on the terraces, well-treated, both down (toward the river) and up (toward the hills).   It is already next Saturday, September 9, 2017, starting at 10h00, at Quinta do Cabrinha, in Alcântara. Outros Campeonatos reaches a special date, the Grand Tournament one! It will be a day full of activities: in addition to the street football tournament, which takes place in the morning, we have prepared activities throughout the day with and for the local community (population and institutions), to promote social cohesion and the improvement of public space. We also have the participation of the Fundação Benfica (Benfica Foundation) and the Mão-Guia project (Hand-Guide project) and we will publicly reveal the results of the Outros Campeonatos project. There will be a party! The Grand Tournament of Outros Campeonatos

I know I promised to write before. But there was so much work I didn’t have the time. Look at our Facebook page and confirm that there was no time to stop. We have reached the end of five intense days of sharing and conviviality. Of learning and bonding.     These days were, almost, too full. The bonds between all grew like roots at blazing speed, and in the end nobody wanted to leave. There was a lot of work going on in all the workshops. From the kitchen to the theatre there was a bit of everything. The workshops went really well, I can say that the food that came from them was delicious. And the theatre? The internship ended but it’s here to stay

As I write this article there is going on another forum theater session, at the facilities of the Spin Association, at the Bairro Padre Cruz. While some continue to practice, the others, who wait for their turn, prepare the party that will be there tomorrow night. This is what’s happening these days. The working groups were arranged with people from the three different projects that are taking part in the internship. And like that we keep on working. Some in one activity, others in the other, simultaneously and looking in the same direction: what we have in common, what we know, what we can learn, with each other, from each other. Internship: Logbook

Yesterday, began one of the events that more joy and pride brings us to organize . As the season requires, before starting the championship, there is an internship. For 5 days we will be at the Spin Association, in the heart of the Padre Cruz, with the practice and metaphor of the soccer internship.     We say metaphor because not only football it is about (knowing that street football is and will always be present in the activities of Outros Campeonatos). We organized 5 days of activities, one of them being street football. In addition to this, there are upcycling and sustainable eating workshops. There is a forum theater and an action incubator where we talk about the daily problems that are faced in the neighbourhoods where our participants live and look for solutions for some of them.
