Second exercise of the mapping process developed by Outros Campeonatos in the Quinta do Cabrinha neighborhood.
This collective mapping exercise was developed in two phases: the first one in Cabrinha, involving inhabitants of the neighborhood; the second, outside Cabrinha, but within the district of Alcântara, involving inhabitants of other neighborhoods of the district.
The first phase aimed to obtain data that would allow us to know how the Cabrinha inhabitants use the urban resources that the district of Alcântara and its surroundings have; the second sought to obtain data of the same type, but relative to inhabitants of other neighborhoods of Alcântara. On one hand, we wanted to compare the extent to which the use of urban resources differs between the inhabitants of Cabrinha and the other inhabitants of Alcântara; on the other hand, we try to understand how the inhabitants of Alcântara come to the neighborhood of Quinta do Cabrinha and use the resources that they provide (like soccer field or local commerce).
We asked each participant to indicate in the map of the district of Alcântara and surroundings the urban resources that they know and/or use. For this, 5 categories of urban resources were created: leisure, transport, security, community spaces and local businesses, each with several indicators, and a two-colored code: green indicated the existence of urban resources of that type; the red, the lack or extinction of them. The group of participants was characterized by their age and gender. Below the legend of the symbols used.
In the collective mapping carried out with the population of Alcântara (purposely excluding Cabrinha inhabitants) we obtained the following responses:

Comparing the two collective mappings we can observe the following:
- As for urban resources, in general, people from Quinta do Cabrinha used less Alcântara resources and used more from the Casal Ventoso / Campo de Ourique area – also showing the strong relationship of this community with the Casal Ventoso area and the still weak relationship with Alcântara (especially in the older population).
- As for security / insecurity, the population of Alcântara revealed to be more insecure in relation to the neighborhoods (Alvito, Cabrinha and Loureiro); the people of Quinta do Cabrinha felt insecure, especially in relation to the Calvário area.
- In transportation, there were more people from the population of Alcântara choosing the car, while the population of Quinta do Cabrinha always choose public transportation – this may show that Cabrinha’s population does not use the car so much and depends more on public transportation.
